Second Known Malibu COVID-19 Death: James McGoldrick, 76, Was Pepperdine Law Prof For 50 Years

A second Malibu resident has died of COVID-19 … the disease ravaging the world.
Pepperdine University law professor James McGoldrick … age 76 … who taught at the University for 50 years.
The school announced his death over the weekend.
McGoldrick graduated form Pepperdine’s Vermont Avenue campus in 1966 … and after law school in Chicago worked briefly in the Antitrust Division of the US Department of Justice … and as a trial lawyer for Tulare County Legal Services.
But when Pepperdine formed a law college and moved to Malibu in 1971 … McGoldreick was hired as a law professor.
Retired law college dean Ron Phillips said “Jim McGoldrick was the third full-time professor ever hired by Pepperdine’s School of Law…
“He likely taught more of our students than anyone else. Jim entertained his students as he taught them. He made friends easily, including me. Jim was one of a kind, and will be sorely missed—and fondly remembered.”
He is survived by his wife, Jan; and his son and daughter … both of whom graduated from the Pepperdine Law College.
His death is the second known fatality caused by the disease in Malibu.
