Malibu Beaches May Open Next Friday – Cancel Any Thought Of July 4th Parties

Not this weekend… but maybe next weekend,
Los Angeles county officials are getting ready to reopen beaches from Malibu to Long Beach.
The Los Angeles daily news reports that County public health director Barbara Ferrer is close to approving a phased plan for opening county beaches.
The county Department of Beaches and Harbors is preparing for that possibility, with the most likely opening date being Friday, May 15th.
Beaches would eb open for swimming and surfing … walking and jogging.
No sunbathing.
No chairs, umbrellas or tents. Phase one lasts approximately six weeks and includes Memorial Day weekend.
Certainly no crowds.
People would be required to keep moving … so they can maintain a physical distance of at least 6 feet.
There is a possibility that beaches would close for the Fourth of July weekend.
Malibu city manager Reva Feldman tells KBUU News she is in frequent discussions with the County Department of public health and Department of beaches and harbors.
But details of the beach reopening plan may need to be tweaked for Malibu’s unique circumstances … which are different than the beaches from Santa Monica south.
For example … South bay cities are planning to keep they’re ocean-front walkways closed the foot traffic and bicyclists.
Malibu Zuma Beach sidewalk is already open … in a low key and unofficial way … to foot traffic.
Beach closures are widely being ignored up and down the coast … as Southern Californians are clamoring to get back to the sea.
Last night … large crowds were reported by KTLA/5 on Venice Beach … to see a grunion run amidst the translucent blue bioluminescence.
We’ve been seeing an increase number of people on the beach at Zuma and Westward at night … as people drive down to look at the blue waves at night.
