Residents Repeatedly Unable To Speak At City Meetings – School District May Hike Parcel Tax

The Malibu Planning Commission met last night.
No major decisions to report.
In fact what was not said may be the most important item.
Several Malibu residents had signed up to address the planning commission on matters that concern them.
But the city’s electronic conferencing system did not show them as present when it was their turn to speak.
Same thing happened a planning commissioner John Mazza last week … when he signed up to speak before the city Council meeting.
The planning commissioners asked the city staff to find out why the system is malfunctioning …. and what can be done to allow the public to speak at a public meeting.

The Santa Monica Malibu School Board meets Thursday at 5 on the internet.
And a proposed 3 point 4 percent increase in the current parcel tax is proposed.
As a result of a public vote … every single piece of property in Malibu and Santa Monica is charged 421 dollars per year.
The district wants to increase that to match inflation.
The new levy would be 435 dollars per year.
That money is a key issue in the ongoing divorce talks between Santa Monica and Malibu … as Malibu continues its 10 year legal effort to pull out of the joint city school district.
