Other Cities Try To Open Beaches To Their Locals – Malibu Trying Everything To Keep Visitors Away

On the beaches of the Southland … it’s pretty much locals only at the few beaches that are open.
And Malibu is not among them.
Deputies are repeatedly sweeping the so-called private beaches … like Little Dume.
Elsewhere…. it’s locals only are allowed at Newport Beach.
Locals only at beaches in Port Hueneme, Oxnard and Ventura.
No one is checking IDs …. but beach parking lots and parking on streets is banned.
Social gatherings that involve beach chairs, umbrellas and picnic baskets will not be permitted, authorities said.
The beach openings in Ventura are intended for locals only.
Restrooms and any playground equipment are closed, and so are most of the beaches’ parking areas to keep big crowds away.
Oxnard police will fly a drone to over the beaches to check on what’s happening.
Port Hueneme police have set up a “greeting checkpoint” in the only open parking lot of Hueneme Beach.
It is a tented space where visitors are handed fliers about the order that list what activities are and aren’t permitted.
Swimming, surfing, walking and biking are OK. Playground equipment and the Hueneme pier are off limits, the flier states.
We’ll see how that locals only works.
Malibu is using radio announcements … flashing signs … increased sheriff’s deputies.

“To our Malibu residents: please stay safe at home and enjoy the outdoors in your neighborhood or your backyard.
“All beaches, parks, trails, and parking areas in the Malibu area remained closed.
“And temporary ‘no parking’ zones are being enforced along Pacific Coast Highway during the county and state stay at home orders.”
Go home and stay home.
Farrer says the city is using every means possible to get that word out …
and get ready for your cellphone to go off this weekend … as well.

“In addition on Saturday and Sunday the city will utilize the wireless emergency alert system – which is similar to an Amber Alert – to send out messages to all cell phones within range of cell towers in Malibu.
“That way we can reach out of area visitors.”
Although Malibu beach enthusiasts are most unhappy … a new Associated Press poll finds an overwhelming percentage of Americans support the stay-at-home orders.
A poll of 1,990 voters conducted by Politico showed that 81% supported continuing social distancing for as long as needed.
Only 10% supported ending social distancing to stimulate the economy.
A poll of 2,000 Los Angeles residents released last week by Loyola Marymount University found that 95% of respondents were in support of officials’ decision to implement a stay-at-home-order.
There are some tea party protesters … small in number … loud in noise.
In San Diego … the police have forwarded charges against the 27 year old woman who organized an “open the beaches” protest.
The woman is part of an organized effort to reopen the economy … funded by tight wing industrialist and egged on by the national groups that fostered the Tea Party protest that took over the Republcian party a decade ago.
A San Francisco-based legal center says the police effort in San Diego is unconstitutional.
That is the same legal group that sued the governor to reopen churches … on First Amendment grounds.
A federal judge ruled that a health emergency overrides the First Amendment during a state of emergency.
