Orange County’s Public Health Officer expects to issue a local order specifically asking people 65 and older … and those with other existing health conditions … to continue limiting their public activities.
California public health officials are still planning for a “worst-case scenario” for a second pandemic.
The L A Times has gotten ahold of what it calls a sobering set of detailed guidelines … to answer the troubling ethical question of who lives and who dies should California face a new surge in the coronavirus outbreak.
Priorities would be set for an overwhelming outbreak that swamps hospitals, preserving intensive care beds and ventilators for people with the greatest likelihood of surviving with treatment over those with serious chronic conditions that limit their life expectancy.
If necessary, younger people and workers who are “vital to the acute care response” would receive care before others.
The California Department of Public Health says the release of these guidelines will no doubt prompt difficult conversations.
