Malibu Has 5 Confirmed COVID 19 Cases, But Infection Rate Here Appears Low

Today’s census of COVID-19 cases list 5 people stricken in Malibu. But more importantly, it shows that the infection rate in Malibu is comparatively low to other Westside cities.
Countywide, the total number of confirmed cases is 4,045, with the death toll standing at 78.
Until today, the Malibu total was vaguely labelled as between 1 and 4 by LA County’s Department of Public Health. It jumped to 5 in today’s total.
The “crude infection rate” is a new calculation, a figure that represents the number of cases per 100,000 people. It accounts for various populations sizes within the random geographical boundaries that divide Los Angeles County.
This allows for the proportional comparison of cities of different sizes. Malibu has a “crude infection rate” of 39.47 per 100,000 people.
That compares to a crude infection rate of 53.76 per 100,000 in Calabasas, 58.59 in Venice, 59.95 in Santa Monica, 66.14 in Agoura Hills, and 115.92 cases per 100,000 in Pacific Palisades.
The total of cases in the Santa Monica Mountains remains at zero, after having gone up to 3 cases last week. No explanation was given for the varying figures.
Today, the County confirmed 13 new deaths and 534 new cases of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) within LA County.
Twelve of the 13 deaths reported today occurred in people over the age of 65; one person was between 41– 65 years old. All reported underlying health conditions except for one individual over the age of 65.
Over the last 48 hours, there have been 1047 new cases.
As of today, 879 people who tested positive for COVID-19 (22% of positive cases) have been hospitalized at some point during their illness.
