101 Freeway Over The Hill To Be Named For Hero Deputy From Borderline Massacre

Just over the hill … part of the 1-0-1 Freeway in Thousand Oaks will be named today … in honor of a sheriff’s sergeant who gave his life trying to rescue people from a madman with a gun.
One year ago … Ventura County sheriff’s Sergeant Ron Helus rushed into the Borderline Bar and Grill … as a madman was slaughtering people with a rapid fire gun… an assault rifle.
Helus was gunned down … as his wife listened to the unfolding events on a police scanner.
Sergeant Helus was one year from retirement.
One person from Malibu … a Pepperdine student named Alaina Housley … was killed that night.
She was 18 … a native of the Napa Valley.
She was one of 16 Pepperdine students who were inside the Borderline bar… line dancing to country music … when the shooting terror was unleashed.
The 101 Freeway just outside the Borderline will be named in honor of Sergeant Ron Helus … today at 10 … in Thousand Oaks.
A memorial garden in honor of the 13 victims of the Borderline shooting will be dedicated Saturday afternoon … in Thousand Oaks.
