Nobu-Soho Case Delayed, Again. Again.
Written by 991KBU on October 18, 2019
There is yet another delay in the city reaction to the traffic and zoning problems at the Nobu restaurant and Soho House club.
Over and over again … the popular two oceanfront businesses have been accused by city staff of violating their coastal use permits.
Parking violations …. valets and delivery trucks in the street … too many patrons.
Nobu has been threatened by the city attorney … to ave its operating permits revoked.
The city has just issue a report … and it promises more delays.
This has been on the agenda at the Planning Commission every month … for almost all year.
And postponed.
The report says that since this item was last heard by the Planning Commission on July 15th … the city hired a traffic engineer to collect data.
But that project was delayed … the planning director says … due to some sort of difficulty getting permission to install cameras to collect the data.
The data is now collected … and the city’s contract traffic engineer is compiling some sort of a joint valet parking plan option to present to both the tenants and the property owner.
That means a new notice of public hearing …
That means more delays.
All of this was supposed to have been ironed out before the start of last summer’s beach season.
No estimate of when this will happen.

Speaking of delays… the Coastal Commission is delaying plans by the city to improve the parking and pedestrian access along Westward Beach Road.
The city wants to put in angle parking and a beachfront walk along the road at Free Zuma Beach.
Coastal staff says the current L C P .. the lLocal Coastal Program that they wrote … doesn’t allow anything other than improvements for handicapped access on ocean sand.
That means the L C P has to be amended.
That means months of delays while that goes up to the Coastal Commission for a vote.
That has to go before the Planning Commission next week.
