5,300 Tickets Written In Malibu Over 2 Months

L A County reports a 4 point 3 percent decrease in serious crimes this year … as of June … and as compared to last year.
The latest statistics from the sheriffs office show a big increase in the number of thefts from unlocked cars in May … from 12 to 22.
Also … an uptick in residential burglaries and thefts from locked cars.
But the number of armed or strong arm robberies has decreased in both May and June.
And when we talk about the Malibu crime statistics … it’s important to remember that there is a very small number to begin with … so a slight variation makes for a large percentage change.
As for traffic tickets … there were 19 hundred 59 tickets written in Malibu in May.
And 33 hundred 31 tickets written in June … after the beach team deputies arrived at Memorial Day.
More than half were parking tickets.
But 550 were for hazardous driving.
There were zero arrests for drunken driving in May … and just 3 D U I arrests in June.
But also … zero crashes involving drunken drivers.
There were 24 traffic crashes in Malibu in May … 31 in JUne.
17 injury crashes over the two months … but no one killed.
Speed or unsafe lane changes were by far the major factors in those crashes … deputies say.
Three pedestrians were given tickets in May.
Three bicyclists were cited in June.
2 bike crashes reported in June.
