40 Cases Now In Malibu – L A Region Transmission Rate Increasing, As Gyms Reopen

The rate of transmission for spreadiNG the coronavirus disease is increasing oin Los Angeles County … likely a result of the first easing of stay at home orders in the L A area.
There is even more evidence that the spread of the novel coronavirus is rising, and county scientists are now more certain the transmission rate is indeed increasing.
Last April … the effective transmission rate of the coronavirus was a good indicator.
For every one person infected, that person on average infected less than one other person.
But then the county began easing stay-at-home requirements in May,
The county this week published a chart showing how the effective transmission rate began ticking upward, rising above 1 by the last week in May.
That means every one person infected with the virus was, by that point, infecting more than one other person, on average.
And here is the really bad news.
L.A. County estimates that the county’s public and private hospitals could run out of ICU beds in the next two to four weeks.
The number of COVD 19 cases in Malibu has now reached 40.
And the number of cases per one hundred thousand residents … has been creeping steadily up … as more and more test results come in.
But that rate shows how untouched Malibu is … compared to densely populated and poor sections of L A County.
Teh rate of infection in Malibu is now 308 cases per 100 thousand people.
That rate … 308 … compares to 17 hundred and 9 cases per hundred thousand in the Pico Union area of Ls Angeles.
In the Little Armenia neighborhood in Hollywood … 27 hundred 91.
That’s more than nine times greater.
The L A County average is 682 cases per 100 thousand people.
We have a total of 68 thosuand 875 cases confirmed by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
Epidemiologists say people in wealthy neighborhoods can afford to social distance … and to work from home.
Cpountywide … Public Health has confirmed 1,857 new cases of 2019 Novel Coronavirus.
Although this is the highest number of new cases reported in a day, 600 cases are from a backlog of test results.
46 new deaths were reported yesterday.
Gyms and fitness facilities are being allowed to reopen today.
The T V stations this morning are showing live shots with lots of happy gym users … huffing away … no one wearing any masks.

Fearing a surge of coronavirus cases that could force a second statewide shutdown in the fall, the California Senate on Thursday approved a measure that would guarantee all registered voters get a ballot in the mail before the November election.
Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom has already ordered ballots to be mailed.
But Republican congressional candidate Darrell Issa and the Republican National Committee have sued, arguing his order is illegal.
And the republicans are opposed to the proposed vote by mail law … because it would allow votes to arrive in the mail up to 20days after the election.
The current law is three days.
Lawmakers say the deadline needs to be lengthened … because the COVID-19 pandemic may delay the mail.
