35 MPH Summer Santa Ana Predicted – Surf Is Up Too
Written by 991KBU on July 5, 2018
A Fire Weather Alert has been issued for Malibu … and huge waves are expected today and tomorrow.
First … an unusual summertime Santa Ana windstorm is possible to hit Malibu.
The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Malibu and the Santa Monica Mountains …. starting later this afternoon.
Gusty north winds of up to 35 miles an hour are expected to start tonight and peak tomorrow morning.
The air will be hot … up to 99 today … up to 110 tomorrow.
And this air will be bone dry … humidities of 3 to 6 percent.
That’s until Saturday … when some subtropical monsoon moisture will flow up from Sonora … adding some humidity to the stew.
Maybe even some thunderstorms.
The weird weather will turn hot and humid on Saturday … and we may even see thunderstorms pop up as far west as Malibu.
Zero coastal flow at night … it will be hot all night and the ocean air will not bring relief.
Overall result … a summer Santa Ana … and a big increase in fire danger.

And in the ocean … the large southerly swell from Hurricane Fabio will arrive today and peak in height this evening … then slowly subside through this weekend.
Surf of 4 to 7 feet with sets to 9 feet is expected through tomorrow.
The highest high tides will be moderate … about 4-1/2 to 5 feet … between 3 and 4 in the afternoon today and tomorrow.
