$3 Million Project On Civic Center Way Will Mean Short Road Closure

Written by on September 11, 2018

The three million dollar project to rebuild Civic Center Way is on track to start this winter.

And the City of Malibu is going to have a community meeting Thursday night to share information and get feedback on the project.

The 68 year old roadway will be dug up at the top of the little hill  … near the Malibu Canyon Village condominiums.

Acting city public works director Rob Du Boux:

“We’re going to remove a portion of the big hump that’s out there, it’s going to help with visibility, be able to see a little bit better out there going over that little hump.

Also we’re going to straighten out a little bit of the road, so you don’t have a curve and a hump at the same location.

The construction project will lower the elevation of the two-lane road …. and that means it will likely mean a temporary closure and detour…

“We’ll have to close part of the road to do that work, cause it actually will physically lower the road and there’s no way to safely do one half of the road at a time.

“We’ll probably have to do it from the condos all the way to Via Pacifico.”

The city public works acting manager says leave length of the closure Will be determined once a contractor is hired.

This would be no access to Webster elementary school from the web way traffic signal for a while.

The meeting to discuss this is Thursday evening at 6 PM at Malibu City Hall.
