2nd SCE Power Line Fire Above Malibu Put Out By Passersby

Written by on October 29, 2019

Passersby put out a small brushfire caused by Southern California Edison power lines, which fell along Mulholland Hwy east of Malibu canyon-Las Virgenes Road.

At first  … more than 500 homes lost power in the central Santa Monica Mountains.

That was later revised downward to 161 homes powerless at 8 this morning.

The fire broke at at 7:09 this morning … under a downed power line on Mulholland Highway about a mile east of Malibu Canyon-Las Virgenes Road.

By the time the first fire truck arrived … nine minutes later … passersby had put the fire out … according to L A County fire dispatchers.

The first engine in found a downed power line … and the fire out.

A second alarm brush fire had been called.

That meant 100 firefighters and two helicopters were on the way.

But arriving firetrucks turned the rest of the response away.

More than 360 power customer accounts were blacked out in the center of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Power was out to just 160 customer accounts by 8 a-m.

This fire was 3 miles away from where Edison company power lines apparently sparked a small fire yesterday … near the 10 Freeway at Las Virgenes Road.

Construction workers helped put that one out.

We’ll have that story tomorrow.
