2 Simultaneous Chopper Calls To Mugu Sunday

Written by on July 16, 2018

Two rescue helicopters were called to the Mugu Rock area at the same time yesterday.

First … a man in his 30s went past the fence out to the dangerous point … past all the danger keep out signs.

He fell about 30 feet onto the rocks near the water line.

This was at about 2:40 yesterday afternoon.

19 units from the Ventura County and Oxnard fire departments, as well as federal firefighters from nearby Naval Base Ventura County’s Point Mugu location, were sent.

Rock climbers clambered down to rescue the man.

It was windy … and a Ventura County sheriff’s helicopter had trouble hovering.

Bu tit was successful in dropping a litter basket to rescue the man.

10 minutes after that incident was reported … a motorcycle crashed just a mile away … at Sycamore Cove.

A second chopper was dispatched for that person … but turned away when paramedics decided that a ground ambulance would do.

And on Saturday …  a bicycle rider was injured east of Neptune’s Net.

The C H P says that one …. was a car door that apparently was opened in the rider’s path.
