KBUU Learns PCH Kink To Be Unkinked

A major choke point on Pacific Coast Highway is about to be widened.
Buried in Coastal Commission documents … we find that Caltrans has filed a request with the Coastal Commission to straighten and widen P C H.
This will be at the Bel Air Bay Club … in the Pacific Palisades section of Los Angeles.
This is the twisting section of road where a landslide fell onto the highway decades ago.
The lanes narrow … the shoulder ends … and this is a place where bicyclists and pedestrians take their live sin their hands frequently … to get up or down the coast.
The state plans to build the road closer to the Bel Air Bay Club’s tennis courts … on land the club gave up in exchange for building permits several years ago.
A half mile of P C H would be rebuilt … under the requested coastal permit.
And Caltrans promises that two travel lanes in each direction will be maintained during construction.
As a nearly six-foot wide pedestrian/bicycle path will be added.
The project is supposed to be finished in three years.
