No Answer From Edison On Splintered Power Pole

Written by on June 15, 2018

We’re still waiting to hear why … from the Southern California Edison company … why it’s okay to put a wooden power pole that has split into two halves in the ground to support heavy power equipment.

The City of Malibu has asked the power company to provide assurances that the pole meets legal standards.

Also yet to be heard from is the California Public Utilities Commission … is in charge of safety and enforcing State regulations on the poles.

On Wednesday … contractors working for the Edison company replaced an overloaded pole on Morning View Drive with a new thicker pole.

The new pole had a crack … cleaving it into two sides … clearly visible at its base.

A city building inspector look at the pole after it was already buried underground … and said the Edison company had inspected the pole.

And that was good enough for that City engineer.

City manager Reva Feldman however sent a letter to Edison … along with a picture of the crack poll provided by KB UU radio.

The poll supports tons of weight … and lateral forces.

Similar pole failures have caused brushfires in Malibu … and the Public Utilities Commission has in the past found that Edison’s pole self- inspection process to be faulty.

We will keep you posted.
