Man Claws Way Out Of Malibu Canyon After 3 Nights With Torqued Knee

A man from Los Angeles is recovering after hurting his leg on a hike Sunday … and spending three days stuck on a mountainside in Malibu Creek State Park.
Marcelo Santos … age 33 … ripped apart his knee while on a hike Sunday.
He fell down a mountainside and lost his backpack … and cellphone.
He was reported missing by his family the next day.
The hiker’s backpack and personal effects were located by Malibu Search and Rescue team members on the first night of the search, giving rescuers hope that the hiker was alive.
More than 100 personnel from the Los Angeles and Ventura county sheriff’s departments … search and rescue teams from Malibu and Sierra Madre … L A County Search Dogs. and three helicopters were used.
The rough area where rescuers searched for him was near Goat Butte … west of Malibu Canyon Road and Camp Crags.
Malibu Search and Rescue team members said it took them two hours to get into the area where Santos had been reported hiking … before they could actually conduct a proper search.
Santos managed to drag himself down the mountain where he’d hurt himself and got to the Salvation Army camp … where an ambulance was called.
