Yesterday’s traffic jam in Malibu … 2 and a half hour trips into Santa Monica … why???
https://www.radiomalibu.net/2-5-hour-delays-on-pch-why/
There is a fire weather watch in effect for after sunset tonight … until tomorrow afternoon.
Along the beaches we can expect gusty northeast winds … 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph.
On the ridges and in the mountains those gusts may hit 45 miles an hour at times.
The relative humidity will be relatively dry… as low as 8 percent.
Southern California Edison has not announced any plans her intentional blackouts at this time.
But that is subject to last-minute change … as Malibu has learned.

A Malibu man has won a one point five million dollar prize for creating a machine that makes drinking water out of humid air.
David Hertz and his colleagues have just won the $1.5 million X-prize for water abundance.
His team was able to meet this challenge:
create 2 thousand liters of water … that’s 500-plus gallons …in 24 hours … at less than 2 cents per liter ,,, using 100 percent renewable energy
Hertz is using shipping containers filled with biomass … think old trees … lawn clippings .. stuff like that … to generate energy.
The biomass is burned at very high temperatures in a controlled chamber.
The heat generates electric energy.
The energy fuels a refrigerator coil.
A fan sucks in humid air through a filter.
That air then makes contact the an extremely cold coils to create condensation – drops of water – just like clouds are formed.
The water is collected.
Oxygen and ozone are used … so no bacteria can form.
It’s then safe to drink.
The big machine in a shipping container can produce more than 525 gallons every day, which is enough to water a 5 or 6 small households.

Should Malibu allow stand-alone parking lots to be built in the Civic Center area?
Pepperdine University owns a big chunk of land behind th Malibu Public Library … and wants to build a parking lot there for off-campus parking and shuttle buses.
And the city owns three vacant lots in the Civic Center area that could be used as parking lots as well.
In fact, the City is considering developing parking on one or more of the recently purchased parcels near Webb Way.
Meeting on Thursday … a city council subcommittee will consider amending the LCP .. the Local Coastal Program … to allow the offsite aprking lots.
They might require parking lot surfaces that allow water to seep in … and more extensive tree coverage and landscaping.
New stand-alone parking facilities would also be subject to the Dark Sky Ordinance.
The subcommittee meeting will be at 2 oclock Thursday at City Hall.
