The Malibu Planning Commission is so unhappy with the parking mess on P C H at Nobu that it is getting ready to consider yanking the restaurant’s Coastal Use Permit. Election day is here.
Polls in California are open from 7 A-M until 8 o’clock tonight.
If you have a mail in ballot … it has to be mailed today … and it has to arrive at the county registrar’s office within three days.
it can also be dropped off at a polling place.
Votes from Malibu are taken by county employees to be counted in Norwalk … halfway between Los Angeles and Disneyland.
They are released on the internet to the news media and the general public at the same time. You can expect Malibu election returns to pop up at around 8:30 …those would be the absentee ballots that have already been received in Norwalk.
Generally … the Malibu precincts don’t start populating the fields until 10 or 11 o’clock on election nights.
But if there are any cliffhangers … we won’t know the finals until Friday or so.
As the national news media is picking up … California counts its ballots slowly.

The fate of an independent Malibu school district is closely linked to passage of Measure M.
Advocates for Malibu Public Schools … AMPS … say passage of the bond issue is critical to showing state officials that Malibu will support its own district.
If the bond issue fails to get 55 percent of the vote … that will be interpreted as a lack of community support for carving out the new district.
