Craig Foster and Malibu May Get Squeezed Out As 4 Santa Monica Candidates Plus Him Run For 4 Seats

Written by on August 13, 2018

At least five candidates will run for four open seats on the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School Board.

And one of them is the sole board member from Malibu … Craig Foster.

He could be ousted this fall … if the other four candidates … all from Santa Monica .. win.

Incumbents Laurie Lieberman, Richard Tahvildaran-Jesswein and Oscar de la Torre are asking voters for another term.

The only person seeking a seat on the school board … is another Santa Monica resident.

Ann Thanawalla has been a longtime parent activist at Roosevelt Elementary School …

Thanawalla has been active in advocating for student privacy …

If she wins … and the three incumbents in Santa Monica coast to re-election … as usual … Malibu will be ousted from the 7 member school board … just as divorce negotiations are finalizing.

It seems possible now …  that Malibu education advocates will urge a “single shot” vote for Foster … to ensure that Malibu still have a voice on the Santa Monica Malibu school board.

No surprise, no last minute candidates have entered the five person race for two open city council seats this fall in Malibu.

Incumbents Laura Rosenthal and Lou LA Monte are forced to step aside … under the city’s term limits initiative.

The five candidates are Olivia Damavandi … Karen Farrer … Jim Palmer … Mikke Pierson and Lance Simmens.

The city clerk says all five Malibu candidates filed enough names on their petitions.

The election is in November.
