City Commission Threatens To Yank Nobu Permits Over PCH Jams

The Malibu Planning Commission is so unhappy with the parking mess on P C H at Nobu that it is getting ready to consider yanking the restaurant’s Coastal Use Permit.
The trendy waterfront restaurant was put on notice last night that it might get shut down unless it solves its parking problems.
Jammed parking lots and overflow cars at the Nobu restaurant on Pacific Coast Highway are infuriating city planning commissioners.
Meeting last night … the commissioners said Nobu is not providing employee parking … using valet parking lots across P C H … and otherwise violating city rules and its operating permit.
Planning Commissioner John Mazza expressed utter frustration … that city staff and the Nobu management has not been able to solve this issue for two years.
Mazza said Planning Director Bonnie Blue has avoided dealing with the issue.

“Now I want to point out, by the way, that Bonnie is supposed to review this monthly, from the day it started, ok, their parking situation, it’s in their CUP.
“So she’s got the power to shut them down.”
And since that hasn’t happened … the Planning Commissioners say they will consider shutting down Nobu next March 31st … unless the restaurant comes up with a solution to the traffic jam it creates all summer on PCH.
Next door … the Soho House also has a parking problem.
And it is also asking permission to have musicians perform amplified music inside … something prohibited by its current coastal use permit.
Soho House’s lawyer … Ken Ehrlich … says the club made mistakes by violating its Coastal Permit by allowing musicians to perform.
Ehrlich claimed there have been only two complaints … Planning Commissioner Steve Uhring said not so.

“There have been, I have got documented five noise violation complaints.
“Three of those are on video.
“Two of those videos occurred after Bonnie called you guys and said ‘you can’t do this.’
“Right?”
EHRLICH: “Understood.”
Ehrlich said those violations were … in his words … “total screw ups by Soho House management” … and have been corrected.
Soho House plans to go back to the planning commission with a new parking plan … and request for interior music performances … by the end of the year.
As for Nobu … no one from the restaurant spoke last night.
And the revocation of coastal use permit hearing will be March 31st … unless Nobu gets an approved plan to City Hall before that.
