Malibu Native Americans Buy $30 Million Golf Course In Ventura County

The Malibu-based Wishtoyo Chumash Foundation is buying a golf course in Santa Paula … and will convert the golf course into a Chumash learning center and preservation area.

The 50-year-old Mountain View Golf Course yesterday …. the VENTURA COUNTY STAR reports.

Wishtoyo is spending close to 3.4 million dollars for the property … about 40 miles north of Malibu.

The closure and sale were pushed largely by two issues: Lack of golfers and lack of water.

Wishtoyo is a nonprofit that aims to protect and preserve Chumash culture with projects that include a replica Chumash Village in western Malibu.

Mati Waiya is the founder and executive director of Wishtoyo.

He told the Star that the plan is to remove the golf course and start a learning center … which could be similar to the village created by the foundation in Malibu.

Waiya told the newspaper that the site could include an academy for under-served youth.
