SCE Power Lines Fall In 35 MPH Winds

A mild Santa Ana wind brought down power lines … that closed Malibu Canyon Road this morning.
Traffic on both directions of the Canyon Road was blocked near the Hughes Research Lab.
The report came in just before 7 o’clock power lines down on the road.
Malibu Canyon Road was closed between Piuma Road up above the tunnel … down to Pepperdine University … for about 70 minutes.
Southern California Edison has repair crews had the road reopened by about 7:40.
Lights here at Trancas did brown out … at about 6:30.
The Malibu Canyon power lines include the major 66 kilovolt lines that feed the two substations on this side of the Santa Monica Mountains.
The transmission lines for a loop and can be fed from either end.
Winds at the time were less than 35 miles per hour.
The CPUC standard for power lines is that they should be able to sustain peak winds of 92 miles per hour for three seconds.
The National Weather Service says we will continue to see a cold Santa Ana blow …
At times and in places … we will see winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph … continuing at times through this afternoon.
We saw a frost warning for the sheltered areas of the Santa Monica Mountains this morning.
Temperatures will again tonight fall to between 32 and 35 degrees … by morning.
