Malibu Creek Will Lose Water That Fish Rely On

Homeowners over the hill along the 101 Freeway corridor will be paying more for sweage disposal … with an impact on Malibu Creek.
The Triunfo Sanitation District voted will raise rates to pay for its Pure Water Project, a new local processing plant that will turn reclaimed sewer water into drinking water.
The 2.5 percent increase will add about $1 to the monthly bill for water customers in the Ventura County part of the Malibu Creek watershed.
The project is expected to be finished in 13 years and cost an estimated $100 million.
The reclaimed sewer water that flows out of the Tapia treatment plant and into Malibu Creekwill instead will be redirected to the Pure Water plant where it will be cleansed further and turned into potable water that can be sold to customers.
The water from Tapia only goes into Malibu Creek during dry summer months … and it is intended to keep endangered fish alive near Malibu Lagoon.
But that water has to be cleaned up further to meet state standards.
the agencies that run Tapia are going to go one step further … and use it as drinking water.
